Mackie's SR40•8 and SR56•8
The SR40•8 and SR56•8 are large-format, center-master-section sound reinforcement console in a 40/56x8x3 configuration. They each have 4 extra stereo Aux Return strips, 8 Subgroups, and Left, Right and Center main outputs. From elaborate EQ and routing flexibility to automated group muting, these no-compromise consoles are loaded with useful features. The built-in 12x4 matrix mixer in each provides access to any combination of the 8 subgroups, as well as the main Left, Right and Center channels, and an external input.
A natural evolution of Mackie innovation, quality and value.
Mackie Designs has always remained fixed on three goals above all others: extremely high sonic quality, legendary reliability, and the best possible price/performance value. If you've ever used one of our smaller mixers, such as the CR1604-VLZ®, MS1202-VLZ®, or an 8•Bus console, you know that we've made good on those promises.
These large-format SR consoles have one key difference from their predecessors. They are the first Mackie consoles not limited by space considerations. We added everything that we've always had to leave out of smaller mixers: phantom power switches on every channel, center channel gizmos galore, dimmer controls for lamps and integrated meter bridge, power supply status LEDs, talkback assignment matrix, separate AFL/PFL switches for inputs and outputs, tunable low-cut filters, main L-R fader link, separate L-R solo buttons... you get the idea. In spite of adding a wealth of useful details, the SR40•8 and SR56•8 are still remarkably conservative in terms of size when compared to other comparable boards.
No-compromise design. No-compromise construction.
Naturally, the SR40•8 and SR56•8 maintain our reputation for low noise and high headroom. Each uses our VLZ® (Very Low Impedance) circuitry to reduce noise and crosstalk in critical areas of the console. And each features our highly-acclaimed discrete mic preamplifiers with large-emitter geometry transistors.
The true log-taper 100mm faders have a new "monorail" design for a smooth steady feel and longer life. All circuit boards are double thru-hole plated fiberglass. Internal interconnects are gold-plated. From custom-designed, sealed rotary controls to extended-duty-cycle switches, we've used the highest quality components throughout.
How can we offer this much performance for far less cost than our competition? Because we specialize in pro audio electronics – not pianos, motorcycles or even guitars. We build our products using state-of-the-art, automated assembly equipment including radial, axial and surface-mount part insertion machines. Our investment in modern world-class manufacturing technologies includes an on-site sheet metal punching and bending plant, paint and silkscreening shops – everything we need except enough parking spaces.
Let us explain a few of the SR40•8's and SR56•8's major features:
UltraMute™ Group Mute System
UltraMute™ is a computerized group muting system that stores and recalls specific mute states of the console. It lets you assign the mute function on all mono channels, "A" stereo aux returns, subs, matrices, and aux send outputs to a mute group or mute snapshot – and turn all of them on and off at any given time.
UltraMute's two basic modes are Group and Snapshot. Group mode is best used for live music situations, where you would need to mute groups "on the fly." Group mutes are additive. You can "stack" up to 9 mute groups.
Snapshot mode is best in situations where things can be predicted, like a corporate presentation, play, musical, or church service. Since these events are planned in advance, Snapshots allow you to store a sequence of mute scenarios that correspond to scenes, dialog, or other cues during an event and then to recall them in the same order. There are 100 Snapshots, two of which are reserved. (Though not so reserved as to stay glued to the wall at parties.)
Separate memories let you store mute groups and snapshots separately – and simultaneously – in the console's onboard, nonvolatile memory.
You can also read and write UltraMute information to and from an external PC computer via the SR40•8/SR56•8's MIDI and Data ports.
12x4 Matrix Mixer
The SR40•8 and SR56•8 feature a 12x4 matrix, with 12 possible sources that can be mixed together into one of four outputs. That means four independent outputs (or mixes), each with its own master level control, mute and solo buttons, and LEDs.
Each matrix output provides a level control for the Left, Right and Center buses, as well as the 8 subgroups. An External input without level control is also available on the rear panel.
Imagine the flexibility: set up different stage monitor mixes, create unique mixes for different zones or for delayed and main speaker systems. Or create separate feeds for live broadcast and taping.
The SR40•8 and SR56•8 mark Mackie's debut into the large-format arena. We've stepped up to the plate with what we believe is the best value ever in big sound reinforcement consoles. Others charge lots more money for their big boards – with Mackie's SR40•8 and SR56•8 you get Mackie quality, ingenuity, and rugged durability... all in a very affordable large-format console.
